Dear Congressperson, Subject: Support for the American Royalties Too Act of 2025 (H.R. 4017) I am writing to urge your support for the American Royalties Too Act of 2025 (H.R. 4017), introduced by Congressman Jerrold Nadler. Visual artists are among the only creators in the United States who receive no ongoing compensation when their original works are resold. Musicians, writers, and filmmakers all benefit from royalty systems that recognize their continuing contribution — yet when a painting sells for ten times its original price at auction, the artist who created it receives nothing. H.R. 4017 would establish a modest 5% resale royalty on sales over $5,000, capped at $50,000 per work, collected and distributed by a designated society. This is not a new idea — more than 70 countries already recognize the right of artists to share in the appreciation of their work. I urge you to co-sponsor and support this legislation.
